Aaniin! Hello! Hola! My name is Mon Escobedo and I am a Latina, Mexican, daughter, sister, wife, and friend. Growing up, I noticed that I was good with numbers and chemistry, so when it was time to choose a career, I studied Environmental Engineering. It was a way to use my powers to save the world!

After several years working as a Project Manager in social projects, I noticed that a lot of times we were focusing on measuring and solving the problem, but not questioning the reasons behind it. Eg. We were seeing the number of pollutants in a river, but not why the river was being polluted, nor why that specific river in that community. That’s when I decided to come to Canada and study a Master of Arts in Sustainability Studies, which I fortunately finished last December.

During my time at Trent University, I connected with TRACKS Youth Program through a summer internship. I loved the energy, passion and loving atmosphere, as well as the opportunities to learn about different knowledge systems and how they can work together. I am really excited to be part of the TRACKS team again now as the Resource Development and Evaluation Lead.

I really like being in nature. Being born and raised in Mexico City, I was grateful for any time I could escape from the chaos and noise of the city. It didn’t matter if it was spending time at my father-in-law’s yard, urban parks, trails, camping opportunities, or conservation areas, they all allowed me to reconnect and recharge.
