My name is Tanez (she/her). I am from Attawapiskat First Nation and Sutton Ontario. I am Mushkegowuk Cree on my dad’s side and have British, Irish, and German ancestry on my mom’s side. I am a student at Trent. I love being out of the land, canoeing, fancy shawl dancing, and simply walking around the bush and trails in Nogojiawong. Our connection to the Earth, one that is reciprocal, is something I am passionate about.
I’ve been working with TRACKS since last year as a School Programs Instructor and Summer Instructor. The team is so welcoming and kind and I have learned so much in this role! TRACKS centers Indigenous knowledge systems while intertwining it with Western Sciences, which I think is a very important outlook to carry when engaging in the world around us. I also appreciate the incorporation of Nishinaabemowin within our programs as I believe we all should try to learn or continue to speak the language of the territory we are situated in.
I am excited for another school year with the team!
