Workshop Package: Coding Under the Canopy

In this unique workshop package, students will learn about coding, Anishinaabemowin, and Indigenous science! TRACKS Instructors will visit your class for 3 separate 90-minute workshops. Each workshop will build on the skills learned in the previous one to create a valuable and memorable learning experience for your students!

WHAT'S INCLUDED IN THIS WORKSHOP PACKAGE?

  • 3-90 minute workshops facilitated by TRACKS Instructors.
    • Workshop 1: Explore the forest ecosystems of the Kawarthas during the first part of this workshop package. Learn about coding, Indigenous sustainability practices, and the different beings that live in the forest - all while enjoying time unplugged outdoors!
    •  Workshop 2: Students will practice coding, Anishinaabemowin, and Indigenous science! Students will use code and Anishinaabemowin to build a map for a small ozobot robot to follow. As the ozobot robot travels through the map, students will encounter different forest beings and learn about the reciprocal relationships these beings have with one another.
    • Workshop 3: Using computer coding software, students will give commands to a small robot. As the robot travels through an interactive forest map, students will encounter different beings, complete tasks for these beings, and learn how we can care for and connect with forest ecosystems.
  • After each workshop, worksheets will be provided for you and your class to continue your learning between workshops! These worksheets are available in French and English.
